Now what are you going to do?
You screwed up the call to arms on the economy but good. I, like so many Americans are so suspicious of you because you don't act on issues unless it is for political reasons. Who can believe you when there IS a crisis?

You used up all your credibility with more failures than I can count and then you further screwed up by using the same stage to claim an economic disaster that you used to start a unnecessary war with Iraq.

The story of the bailout is like the story of Captain Ahab's loosing battle against the white whale and the Titanic rolled up in one.

You have sailed our nation into an unnecessary war with Moby Dick while ignoring that the ship is taking on water and no one was watching how much water the ship was taking on.

And like the captain of the Titanic you pushed her to full speed just because you could and you set sail without enough life boats to save everyone onboard.

After a while the rough seas caused your ship/economy to slow down and took on more water. The overweight ship was no match for accompanying storm as she took on more water.

Now you have idealistic conservatives who rail that the pumps are not needed because in their minds a wooden vessel should not sink and if they do add resources to the ship it will hinder speed and that is not fair to the owners who keep saying, "Not with my money you don't."

And there is no guarantee the bailout will truly save us. Many people worry that it will alter the operation of the ship with more layers of unneeded bureaucracy which will surely mean increasing the number of crew and heavy pumps which would inherently slow down our economy and forever change the ship’s operation.

It is difficult to listen to a half crazed captain who charts a course and spends precious treasure including life and limb of the sailors to battle Moby Dick. You are the captain who claimed your mission was guided by your God and guided the ship towards your prized whale. You did it without taking your eyes off the telescope. So you were bound to steer us into the shallows and reefs right before you. Your laziness and your reluctance to deal with the pirates on Wall Street has helped crash our economy.

To increase the speed of the vessel you threw the bilge pumps overboard during the voyage and put the personnel monitoring the bilge water ashore at the beginning of your voyage.

Now the ship has crashed.

Your recent cries that the ship will sink unless huge resources are added to keep us afloat, are failing on disbelieving ears of the owners/public back at home because you cried wolf when you falsely claimed Moby Dick/Iraq was an inherent danger to all Americans.

Some of your crew have rebelled and threaten to mutiny in response to the calls from their conservative benefactors that the ship is sound and little needs to be done, just keep the course steady as she goes and let the sun and sea air dry out the accumulated bilge water. Many people are rebelling at spending their tax money to pay for other's mistakes who took their huge profits from the voyage off the top.

John McCain said he would board the ship and work out a solution without knowing how the economy works or know what was being done.

Rather than take a helicopter to board the vessel he decided to take a leisurely cruise ship and once he got there all he did was provide the Republican House mutineers an excuse to rally against bailing out the water, because they said the economy can take care of itself with no assistance and two, they may come up with a better idea.

McCain did nothing except to pose against the tiller and then leave for a nice dinner.

At this point, the ship may have to take on enough water until people back on Main street begin to feel the pain directly from a vessel that supplies Americans with everything that we have or hope to have.

It is ironic that Republicans who count on low-information voters to get their news from Fox news and Rush Limbaugh may not get re-elected because of the right-wing's call to vote against the bailout.

Yar is a term used to describe ship's speed, responsiveness and agility. It is also what our economy just lost.

The bailout will probably happen sometime, but the ship will never be the same because it has taken too many hits. All the hastily built patches on the hull and the bilge water sloshing around will slow us down considerably.

It will be quite a long time before substantial repairs can take place to give our ship any yar.

If the new captain has the same myopic view as you do there is little hope the vessel will ever be as vibrant as it had been.

If so, I will not be the only one to ask, "Permission to jump ship before the rats sir."

I saw you on TV in a very familiar setting. I think you even had the same suit and tie on.

The background scene, and the same serious tone rings a bell as well.

I remember now; it was when you announced that you had to invade Iraq because of the serious threat they posed to America.

Going to the same well again huh junior. Hey why not, the same rhetoric worked once before to get America to support your plan and urge Congress to provide your administration with unheard-of power and money at your disposal without judicial overview or interference by Congress.

Talk about deja view all over again.

The last time you wanted Congress to grant you the power to act unilaterally it turn out very badly for America, the world and the Iraqi people.

You warned us that we could not wait back then as well.

Specifically you said, "Knowing these realities, America must not ignore the threat gathering against us. Facing clear evidence of peril, we cannot wait for the final proof -- the smoking gun -- that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud."


On Wednesday you said, "The government's top economic experts warn that, without immediate action by Congress, America could slip into a financial panic and a distressing scenario would unfold. More banks could fail, including some in your community. The Stock Market would drop even more, which would reduce the value of your retirement account. The value of your home could plummet. Foreclosures would rise dramatically. ....More businesses would close their doors, and millions of Americans could lose their jobs." "Cats and dogs sleeping together!!!" (my emphasis)


The "fear card" seems to be your only weapon, but instead of saying we can't wait for a mushroom cloud this time you say we cannot wait until our retirement, pension funds, IRA's and our piggy banks at home disappear before our eyes and our children are out in the street, fighting over road kill, if we don't act now.

Usually, when I hear "Act now" on TV I wait for the second part of the pitch when the announcer says "but wait, if you act right now we will also include..." The items they pitch usually costs something around $19.99 or $29.99 and there is an 800 number flashing on the screen.

To stay true to the infomercial format you should have asked for $699,999,999,999. You can ask for less since there was no real formula for the amount Henry Paulson your Treasury Secretary asked for.

A Treasury spokesman told Forbes magazine that the amount of money they were asking for was NOT based on any specific data. They just pulled it out of their ass.

It must have crossed your mind that you have no credibility so you had your Paulson be the point man on this debacle. You took a gamble that Paulson would survive a hit to his credibility because he publicly stated just a couple weeks ago that the economy was in good shape. OOPS!

Some people said you were hiding which showed a lack of leadership in another time of trouble. This is like September 11th when you were informed that the planes hit the towers. You sat there frozen like a deer in the headlights.

While others said you have been working on this bailout with Paulson and company for quite a while before springing it on the public.

"Tony Fratto, White House Deputy Press Secretary, insisted that the plan was not slapped together and had been drawn up as a contingency over previous months and weeks by administration officials. He acknowledged lawmakers were getting only days to peruse it, but he said this should be enough."

This just begs a whole lot of other questions like, why wait until just before the debates to bring this up?

Me and my tin-foil hat seem to think you want to give McCain a chance to charge into the chambers with his hair on fire as he physically wrestles Democrats and Republicans alike until they cry "Uncle" and agree to support McCain's ingenious plan to save the country and the world.

And also provide McCain and Palin an excuse to duck the debates which might touch on the economy and McCain's famous support for deregulation. And you want to keep the totally incompetent Sarah Palin's away from answering ANY questions on ANYTHING.

Her interviews with Charlie Gibson and Katie Couric were very telling and demonstrated her complete lack of knowledge on national and international issues.


Regardless of the details on the finished plan, you have handcuffed the next president economically.

The shackles you are tying onto the next president are adding up.

So far you are leaving him an escalating war in Afghanistan, an Iraq war which has been propped up with payoffs, bribes, and deals with insurgents who have actively pursued and killed U.S. troops, a deteriorating situation in Pakistan and a new Cold War with Russia. And now you have capped off America's future with a crippling debt and an economy teetering on total collapse.

Is there anything you CAN'T screw up junior?

All of these Easter eggs will severely hinder the next president from implementing their plans for improving the lives of average Americans.

So despite an Obama-win we will be saddled with several years of your failed-policies.

This could rank up there as another Bush doctrine which you can spin as a "transitional necessity to keep the United States from suffering the shock of absorbing too many changes from a new president."

Most people would call it "Pissing From The Grave", "The Ghost of Bush Past," or "The Curse of Bush 43."

I personally like Bush's Policy Of "Burnt Earth," it reminds me of what you did in Iraq.

I thought the Iraq war, the dismantling of the Constitution, your unilateral approach to foreign policy, the lack of response after Katrina, the huge deficit and infecting our government with incompetent Bush lackeys would be the largest millstones you would carry around the rest of your life.

I was wrong. I forgot about your contempt for business regulation.

You’ll have to make room for one more millstone, the resulting disaster in the Stock Market.

I bet you were hoping the financial crisis would hit after McCain took office.

Does McCain have any extra sensory abilities that you know of junior because I think he is eerily channeling Herbert Hoover.

While the Stock Market was on its way to one of the largest one-day slides in American history, he was on the stump speaking to a crowd of beloved republicans in Jacksonville Florida.

"Our economy, I think, is still -- the fundamentals of our economy are strong, but these are very, very difficult times,'' McCain said. "I promise you, we will never put America in this position again. We will clean up Wall Street."

On October 30, 1929, after the Stock Market suffered the biggest one-day slide in history, President Hoover spoke about the state of the American economy at the time.


‘The fundamental business of the country, that is production and distribution of commodities, is on a sound and prosperous basis,’ said President Hoover.


Weird isn’t it.

And you just left him out there to hang by himself. You are a coward to leave the country to fend for itself.

You were no where to be found. Rather than try and give the country some confidence, you went AWOL just like you did when things got tough in the Texas National Guard.

You have a rough time telling us the truth don't you. You can't level with us and say you were wrong and that we need government leadership and intervention in this crisis.

So you left; checked out and went to your state dinner for an african leader.


Talking heads were going nuts. There were charts with sharply sloping lines all over the TV . The news even displaced the second FEMA disaster which was taking place in Texas.

The relief efforts were so bad after Ike hit, that the Houston Mayor and other local officials took over a large part of the effort.

There were questions when you made a portion of the destruction path a no-fly zone and you kept the reporters out of the area. Were you trying to keep the press from photographing dead bodies in the aftermath which might remind people of Katrina?

Although more than 3,500 people were rescued that is no where near the number of people who reportedly stayed behind.

Before Ike hit, reporters interviewed some people who were going to stay. Some were confident they could ride it out. Others said they had no money to stay at hotels.

As the hurricane closed in, authorities in three counties alone estimated 90,000 people ignored evacuation orders. In Galveston County, about 15,000 residents stayed behind.

A recent MSNBC article quoted one official: “Nobody is suggesting that tens of thousands died, but determining what happened to those unaccounted for is a painstaking task that could leave survivors wondering for months or years to come.”
“Authorities concede that at least some of those who haven't turned up could have been washed out to sea.”
"I'm not Pollyana. I think we will find some," said Galveston County Judge Jim Yarbrough, the county's highest-ranking elected official.

A second article from the Los Angeles Times said: Galveston officials have estimated that 20,000 stubborn residents of the barrier island stayed behind as Hurricane Ike pounded homes and businesses Saturday.

The U.S. Coast Guard crews sent to rescue them are now wondering where they all went.

After two days of search-and-rescue missions by helicopter, the crews say they have seen relatively few people in need of assistance and have spotted no corpses in the debris-clogged waters that have inundated the island.

"I'm looking around and wondering where all those people are," Coast Guard flight mechanic Jason Carty said Sunday, describing a midday helicopter flight along the length of the island. He saw considerable destruction but no people seeking rescue.

We may soon hear stories about a massive number of missing people as relatives and officials piece together just how many people may have been swept out to sea.

I hope I am completely and utterly wrong. But hat won't preclude me from praying for the families.

It is too late to pray for your own redemption, the least you can do is dig down to that last piece of humanity you may have left and pray for the families as well.

That is where the women of the “View” on ABC took the conversation on McCain’s fifth appearance on the program.

Barbara Walters and Whoopi Goldberg chimed in as well, refusing to let the senator much time to repeat his worn out political mantra.

He underestimated the women. Even the show’s lone conservative voice Elisabeth Hasselbeck didn’t leave him off the hook as she peppered him with questions about his intention to overturn Roe versus Wade.

Perhaps he prefers women as beauty pageant contestants like Mrs. McCain and Sarah Palin or that stripper he once dated.

Your buddy McCain’s campaign strategy was put to the test on that Friday morning and it failed miserably.

He looked ridiculous as he tried in vain to keep to his scripted talking points.

The show’s hosts peppered him so much that Barbara Walters took the time to get a reading from the audience and asked them if they were too rough on the Senator, to which the crowd at the studio taping shouted “No.”

But it was Joy Behar who cut to the quick when she said.” “We know these ads are lies, but you say ‘I approve these messages.’ Do you really approve them?”


That moment may be remembered much like Joe McCarthy’s moment before the ABC cameras back in 1954.

Wisconsin’s GOP senator Joe McCarthy had a fairly unremarkable career in the Senate during the forties until he claimed that he knew of communists working in Washington, Hollywood, universities and in the rest of mainstream America during the height of tensions with the Soviet Union.

McCarthy consistently used charges of communism, communist sympathies, or disloyalty to attack his adversaries.


If you substitute the words terrorist for communist in that last sentence, you have a ready-made script for Fox News and Rush Limbaugh.


McCarthy was riding high until June 9 1954 when he and his committee held the Army-McCarthy hearings before the new media wonder of live television on the ABC network.

Scores of witnesses were frightened into making false assertions about their peers as they appeared before McCarthy’s House Committee of Un-American Activities. No one dared to question McCarthy for fear of appearing unpatriotic or un-American.

During the televised meeting Special Counsel for the Army Joseph N. Welch had a serious disagreement with McCarthy over Fred Fisher, a young attorney who had once belonged to the National Lawyers Guild (NLG), a group which McCarthy called "the legal mouthpiece of the Communist Party."

Welsh was pissed. The discussion about Fred Fisher before the committee, was a violation of a pre-hearing agreement because the designation was being litigated.

Welch vehemently responded:"Until this moment, Senator, I think I never gauged your cruelty or recklessness...."
"Let us not assassinate this lad further, Senator.... You've done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?"


Joseph Welch's famous words heralded the end of Senator Joseph McCarthy's political career.

Fifty four years after that day on a different ABC stage Joy Barr calls McCain out on lies which he is espousing and supporting.

How weird is that. McCarthy and McCain both got outed on ABC television.

McCarthy went down in history as a caricature and became an ‘ism.’ McCarthism became a term describing the intense anti-communist suspicion.

Is John McCain going to suffer the same fate? Will he also become an “ism” which defines someone hopelessly beyond his game, beyond his moment of glory?

The outrageous lies he approved for his commercials are the worst gutter politics since Rove spread a rumor he had a black baby out of wedlock.

Having been victim to that kind of mudslinging I can only say, “Have you no honor left Senator McCain?”

Tell him I said that when you see him junior.

It must have been a bitter pill for you to swallow each time you have had to follow Barack Obama's ideas.

You chided Obama for being naive when he suggested having direct talks with Iran and yet that is exactly what you have done when you sent State Department representative to meet with Iranian and Syrian representatives.

You mocked Obama when he said we need many more troops in Afghanistan to keep the Tailiban from regrouping and yet you have had to pull troops out of Iraq to do just what he suggested.

He said he would bomb Pakistan if he knew there were hard targets in the region. Right-wing talk radio almost burned down their transmission lines with outrage that Obama would bomb an ally and yet that is exactly what you just did.

Obama has been ahead of you at every turn.

McCain is learning that Obama is indeed a smart fellow as he has also had to follow Obama's lead.

McCain falsely took credit for passing the GI bill which Obama DID support, and McCain voted against.

Obama has been the 'Change' candidate until McCain decided you were too much of a mill stone to carry around and decided he was a 'Change' candidate although he supported 95 per cent of everything you asked for.

Obama was the first minority considered to be considered the highest office in the land so McCain followed up and found a woman to run as his vice-president.

McCain's camp has been following Obama so closely they can probably tell you how often Obama farts while McCain has been pivoting on issues more often than an NBA point guard.

Is it any surprise that following the McCain campaign is a test in memory recall. Thank goodness we have newspaper archives and video libraries that show what McCain originally said before he reverses his position.

McCain's strategy seems to be to squash any discussions about specific ideas on how to get America out of the worst financial, judicial, and credibility crisis we have ever been in and has kept the conversation centered on gutter issues like Obama's race, pigs with lipstick, sexism, faith, nationality, honor, and his patriotism.

The McCain camp has been busy throwing crap on the wall looking for something to stick while the game clock is ticking to a close. They want Obama camp to either play 'whack a mole' with every smear, half-truth, and outright lie that gets uttered or to get him down into the mud.

We'll see how well that works out for him. In the meantime Palin has become the darling of the right-wing talk show circuit.

According to extreme right wing conservatives, McCain's pick of Palin as his Vice-president was a stroke of genius. She completely fits the Bush/Cheney mold.

The Alaskan governor has been such a hit with neo-conservatives that Cheney called Palin the "Cold-Bloodied gal of my dreams."

Your poor party is having a heck of a time with their convention. McCain had to dodge and weave to avoid one major calamity, but fortunately Hurricane Gustav kept you away from Minneapolis. Thus avoiding the unfortunate reminder that the most hated person in the world and John McCain is so alike.

When "Country First" John McCain picked an unknown junior Governor to be his running mate, I had to ask, 'Which country is he thinking about'?


When McCain cancelled the first day of the convention because of hurricane Gustav, one McCain staffer said, "This is McCain doing the right thing; showing leadership, and taking command, ” the convention planner said. " He ’s deciding how to handle this, and Bush is irrelevant.” He actually said you are irrelevant?

No wonder they didn't want you there. Unfortunately, you still made an appearance the next day but at least it was over a satellite hook up and not live. Do you have major cooties or what?

Sorry if your feelings got hurt but you often said you did not care about your legacy because we would all be dead a hundred years from now. So for the next hundred years or until you are no longer with us suck it up junior.

Back in 2000 would you have guessed that you would be a treated like a turd in a corner by your own party after your term was over?
At this rate you will be able to have your retirement party in a phone booth with room left over for a couple of trays of appetizers.


I have always liked the way you link disasters to politicize your agenda. The Gustav hurricane was no exception as you used your time before the RNC convention to use the shutdown of oil platforms caused by the hurricane to justify extending offshore drilling.

But, the star of the show is Governor Sarah Palin. And everyone has been head over heals in love with McCain's pick, but for different reasons. Far-right Evangelists adore the floor she walks on while she has been red meat for late-night comics and the media.

I look forward to the vice-presidential debate. Maybe she could use the same receiving device you had under your coat when you debated Kerry. Who was at the other end by the way? It had to be the whole team because lord knows you don't know very much about anything.

Enough bad news for the republicans lets talk about bad news for everyone else.

While business is way down, home values are in the toilet and foreclosures are at an all time high at least weapon sales by the U.S. Government are up 45 per cent. War is good for business but I guess it does not trickle down to all businesses.


Cheney has not shown his face anywhere near Minneapolis. He decided to rattle another saber at Russia instead.

If I were Cheney I would worry that some people in that region of the world maybe very hostile to him..

From what I have read he is not sitting in the comfort of an aircraft carrier group as he normally is when he bitches out the people he wants to bomb.

After meeting with Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev at a press conference he said, "The United States has a deep and abiding interest in your wellbeing and security."

How much fortitude and concentration did it take to keep Cheney from saying "oil instead of "well-being and security? ”

Cheney's energy policy of bribe, blackmail or bomb oil-rich nations was well in play as he arrived with pockets stuffed with money, one billion dollars to be exact

Although Moscow withdrew most of its forces, thousands of Russian "peacekeepers" have remained in the two rebel regions and in a buffer zone.

Where is Condi Rice? I thought she was your Russian expert? I guess her knowledge of foreign affairs is not as good as Sarah Palin's predecessor.

Thank God Sarah Palin, potentially our next Vice-President, has all that foreign policy experience by living next to Russia.
